Things to do

You will find Youlgrave a very friendly place to be, where there still remains a strong community spirit. Many events take place at the local Village Hall, including markets and the Film Club, plus annual events which include a Flower Festival. The village pantomime is held during January and February. Youlgrave is well known for the annual Well Dressings, which include a whole week of things to attend and take part in (nearest date to John the Baptists day). We have a Music Festival in September and the village has a Carnival in July.

On a sheltered strip of sloping land on Bankside you will find the Community Wildlife Garden. This is a free and enjoyable resource for both visitors and locals and gives everyone the chance to experience and learn about the local flora and fauna - or simply relax and chill out in an idyllic setting. The centre-piece of the garden is an historic Victorian summer house. Both this and the garden itself have been renovated by locals and voluntary groups with the help of various grants. There is a pond full of aquatic life, and a woodland retreat has been created where birds and insects are encouraged to come into the garden. Work is still on-going.

There are many other things to see and do in the surrounding areas of Youlgrave throughout the year in the lovely nearby market town of Bakewell, and at beautiful Haddon Hall and the magnificent Chatsworth House. Other events (to name only a few) you may not be familiar with are:
