Walking country from the front door
Youlgrave lies between Lathkill Dale and Bradford Dale, bringing traditional country pubs and excellent walking together in one place. These favourite routes begin directly from Pumpkin Cottage.
Bradford Dale and the Stepping Stones
Turn right from the cottage and follow the route towards the Methodist Chapel and into Bradford Dale. The path follows the peaceful River Bradford to the famous stepping stones. Continue towards Middleton-by-Youlgrave for a longer walk. Dogs love the shallow river, and there is a swimming area in the dale too.
Lathkill Dale Circular Walk
Join the walk near The George on Conksbury Lane or continue down the hill to the Limestone Way. Follow the River Lathkill through limestone cliffs, quiet riverside paths and abundant wildlife. Look out for dippers, herons, buzzards, swans and kingfishers.
Youlgrave to Bakewell
Walk through rolling countryside to the historic market town of Bakewell. Enjoy its independent shops, coffee and an original Bakewell Pudding, then return through peaceful fields and country lanes—or take the local bus back to Youlgrave.

A warm traditional pub serving locally brewed ales and freshly cooked pub food, with generous portions. A brilliant spot for a post-walk pint. Closed Wednesdays.
The Farmyard Inn
A relaxed village pub with garden seating, a good selection of beer and wine and a warm welcome for walkers, locals and their dogs.
The Bulls Head
A historic village pub combining centuries of character with seasonal food, local beer and a cosy atmosphere. Booking is recommended if you would like to eat.
