Planning a getaway in the Peak District ?  The historic village of Youlgrave (also known as Youlgreave) is on of the regions best kept secrets. Perfectly nestled between Lathkill Dale and Bradford Dale, it offers the ultimate combination of breath-taking riverside walks and cosy, traditional pubs.

Whether you are staying at Pumpkin Cottage or just visiting for the day, here is our tried and tested guide to the best walks and pub stops right on our doorstep.

The Ultimate Riverside Stroll: Bradford Dale

You don’t need to drive anywhere to find spectacular scenery.  Step out of the front door of Pumpkin Cottage and head straight down to Bradford Dale.  This gentle, family-friendly  walk follows the crystal clear River Bradford. Keep an eye out for local trout and wild kingfishers as you cross the historic limestone stepping stones.  It is the perfect route for dog walkers with plenty of shallow spots for four-legged friends to paddle (or children in wellies)

The Challenging Route – Lathkill Dale to Monyash

If you want to stretch your legs further, head towards Lathkill Dale. Turn left out of Pumpkin Cottage.  This National Nature Reserve features dramatic Limestone Cliffs, deep woods and enchanting waterfalls. You can follow the valley floor all the way to the village of Monyash for a rewarding afternoon trek before heading back to Youlgrave.
